Don't know about berolist, but at least smartlist *should* work with
smail. It is true that newaliases will give you an error if you use smail,
but this error is just ignored (i.e. it does not make postinst to fail).

I could change smartlist so that this error is not even displayed on
screen, but there is a paragraph in the Debian policy manuals saying:

"All MTA packages should come with a newaliases program, even if it does
nothing, but older MTA packages do not do this so programs should not fail
if newaliases cannot be found."

i.e. it would be much easier to fix smail to provide a dummy newaliases
command.


Feel free to try smartlist and report any bugs. It's the list server
Debian uses for all its mailing lists.
