It could be a waste of time. I still see a small chance that they will not
be required in the near future (read: if we decide to reduce the
transition period to just potato).

Anyway, the symlink method is not widely announced yet, and the switch to
FHS is not release-critical. When the symlink method was made policy and
widely announced, modifying debmake accordingly will be one of my
priorities.
