 Policy sprint at DebCamp 2017
 Call for contributions to Policy during the buster cycle

Policy 4.x series
=================

With the buster cycle getting underway, many of you are getting ready to
update packages or upload experimental versions to unstable. This is a
great opportunity to check them against the current Policy requirements.

Debian Policy 4.0.0 is now available in unstable and is the first major
Policy update in more than a year, so more than the normal amount has
changed. You can see a summary of the updates in the upgrading
checklist.[1]

Policy sprint at DebCamp 2017
=============================

We are organising a sprint at DebCamp 2017. The sprint has two goals:

(1) clear the backlog of uncontroversial changes to Policy, which makes
    up the greater part of outstanding Policy bugs; and

(2) draft text for "big ticket" Policy updates, such as dpkg triggers
    and multi-arch.

These goals were chosen so that Debian contributors of all levels of
experience will be able to participate in the sprint, and make a
meaningful impact on our core documentation.

If you're able to attend, please add your name to the participation
roster.[2]  Remote participants are welcome.

Call for contributions to Policy during the buster cycle
========================================================

Thinking beyond DebCamp, we'd like to ask all contributors to think
about what they intend to work on during the buster cycle, and if it
would render Policy out-of-date, consider submitting a bug, and ideally
preparing a patch.

While the task of keeping Policy up-to-date should never block making
improvements to Debian, discussing your plans with others in a Policy
bug can help avoid blind alleys, and also bring in additional
volunteers.
