Dear Developers,
At the Paris mini-DebConf[1], Debian announced the SIP and WebRTC
service for Debian Developers.
Over the summer, one of our Google Summer of Code students, Juliana
Louback[2], has been working to extend the WebRTC user interface for
https://rtc.debian.org
Her work has been released to the site today.
It would be extremely helpful if people could try it and provide
feedback on debian-devel, IRC or at Juliana's session at DebConf14[3]
Details about how to get started and get support are explained in the
User Guide[4] in the Debian wiki.
If you already created a real-time communication (RTC) password,
please note that it may have been reset as part of security changes
recently. If you can't log in, try updating the RTC password and
waiting 30 minutes.
The password for all RTC services can be set via the
https://db.debian.org webfrontend. Please note that this password
needs to be different to any of your other existing debian.org
passwords.
Your friends and family can call your @debian.org SIP address from the
WebRTC service at
https://freephonebox.net
You can also create a link in your website or blog, for example,
https://freephonebox.net?dial=USER%40debian.org
This service has been made possible by the contributions of many
people and organizations:
* the DSA team who helped create the server infrastructure
* Catalin Usurelu[5], who implemented some of the server-side
WebSocket infrastructure in GSoC 2013
* Juliana Louback, who has overhauled the HTML/CSS/JavaScript
front-end in GSoC 2014
* the reSIProcate community, who provided a SIP architecture that
has been flexible enough to implement fully federated SIP
and WebRTC
* Contributors who provided translations[6]
* Google, funding the work of students through Google Summer of Code
Regards,
Daniel
