Hello!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the election process this year, and
particularly to those of you who expressed a preference for me in your voting!

My thanks to Branden and Raphael for their participation in the process. Both
represented themselves well through their campaigns, and I look forward to
continuing significant contributions to Debian from each of them.

Please also join me in thanking Ben Collins, our outgoing Project Leader, for
his service to the project. I also appreciate the professionalism with which
our Secretary, Manoj Srivastava, handled the election logistics this year.

I have received many messages of congratulations, support, and encouragement
in the past few days. I am attempting to reply to each of them individually.
Several of you made specific recommendations to me, and all are being
considered. I am also looking forward to making contact with each of the
existing delegates and other key contributors to our success in the next week
or two. But before I tackle any *new* tasks, I hope our highest priority
is as clear to you as it is to me!

Please join me in providing full support to our release manager, Anthony
Towns, as he leads us through the final preparations for our upcoming release
of Debian 3.0 (woody).

I take quite seriously the responsibility you have bestowed upon me, and I
certainly hope I will be able to live up to your expectations. Please feel
free to contact me with any ideas or concerns you may have.

This is the first of what I hope will be a fairly regular series of messages
from me in my capacity as Debian Project Leader. I intend to tackle various
topics that I think deserve your attention as we move along the path towards
our vision for Debian's future... but right now, I don't want to distract
anyone from the effort to get woody released!

Thank you for your time, and your attention.

Bdale
