if mbr is used (which is debian default but not used on all systems) then
mbr should keep the backup, if mbr is not used but only lilo, then lilo
should keep the backup. If both use the same naming sheme, there is no
danger of backing up the wrong mbr. And yes I think we should keep that
backup, even if lilo or mbr is restoing it on purge (which imho is a bad
idea).
