Remember the pain when you discovered the SMTP over SSH file tranfer protocol, and then think about future dak developers finding your new protocol ;) There are plenty of good file transfer protocols out there (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_file_transfer_protocols) - no need to reinvent the wheel here.
