..printing umbrella cloth is pretty much as profitable as flipping
burgers, so they flip on anything too challenging.

..so lets cut the challenge down into manageable bits 
and start the design bit first; can we use
http://sailcut.sourceforge.net/  to make our 8-sail swirl?
