That shouldn't be too hard surely ?  There must be a single place
where that path is specified, or at most a few places.

You can specify a different domain_name in the textdomain() call; then
the .mo files (have to) have different names.

That seems like a very bad way of handling configuration changes.
Also, let me just clarify: are you disagreeing with Raul's assertion
