Can you not remove old Images (from 2014-11-13,
e.g. ami-1420b57c from N.Virginia) for now?
I was using it, and after
$ apt full-upgrade
grub started protesting about xvdf and device mapper:

It also displayed debconf window demanding confirmation
of removal of device map and changing device to xvda.
IMO this is something to investigate, to avoid problems
with GRUB in Jessie.
