I would now like to call all previous Debian 7.x images (just 7.4 original release) as Depreciated; please update any AutoScale groups or CloudFormation templates accordingly. I will un-share these from the Debian AMI account in one week – Friday 18th of April 2014.

AWS Marketplace will also shortly be updated with fresh AMIs – I will push another signed message here when that is done. In the mean time, if you have existing AWS EC2 AMIs launched, can you please:

1)      Confirm that /etc/apt/sources.list includes (and add to this file if it is missing):
deb http://security.debian.org/ wheezy/updates main contrib non-free

2)      Run “apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y

As always, many thanks for your patience and co-operation as we all try and deal with this situation. I would also advise that customers determine if their SSL private keys and signed certificates can be regenerated. Let me also point EC2 customers to the AWS Security Bulletins page at https://aws.amazon.com/security/security-bulletins/, and an RSS feed of the security updates at https://aws.amazon.com/rss/security.rss to assist you to be aware of issues such as this.

Sincerely,

  James
