Re: Debian 7.4 images available from HP cloud

GCE images are built more than once per release currently, primarily to to improve the GCE-specific integration code and CLI tools or adapt to changes in the underlying environment and feature set. Occasionally there's something else, like the performance-driven backports change Himanshu mentioned on this list recently. So the CD frequency is only good as a minimum, not a maximum.

That said, the more of the build process that Debian can automate, the better. I'd also suggest that careful thought be given to testing; right now we have some internal tests that we run for the GCE images, but pre-publication testing is a generally useful pattern across all environments.

This has to be discussed with Steve McIntyre, who is building the
official CD images of Debian.

I think it'd be much better to integrate the build of the images in the
release process, rather than having someone that manually monitors the
next point release.

Steve, do you think it would be possible to run the script of
"openstack-debian-images" on each release of Debian, and put the
OpenStack image (both the AMI and the Qcow2) in the Debian FTP, next to
the .iso images for the installer? Note that this is available from
backports (as well as the 3 cloudinit packages it uses in the image).
Note that running the script is really trivial. You just need to do:

build-openstack-debian-image -r wheezy

then wait... :)

Your thoughts?
Cheers,
