I'm going to call this stable now. This set of 7.3 AMIs have been now pushed to the AWS Marketplace team and should be distributed and updated in the next few days. Charles Plessy and I have noted that there are some functions of cloud-init (as installed from backports) that may have some bugs, but there are no regressions from previous functionality. Notably, apt_update:true, apt_upgrade: true, and packages: [list] does not seem to work. However, Shell script execution is still fine, and adding SSH keys appears to be OK.

Deprecating 7.2
=============
I'm going to mark the 7.2 release - our first experimentation of cloud-init that was never really blessed and "finished" - as deprecated, and schedule removal on Monday 6th January[1]. At that point I will mark the AMIs as private, and remove them a short while later. Please adjust any CloudFormation templates or currently active Launch Configurations that may referenced these deprecated AMIs.

I think we'll keep the pre-cloud-init 7.1a AMIs in the Debian AMI account a little longer - /perhaps/ until 7.4 - just as we finalise the cloud-init migration.

Plans for the AMIs
===================
I think now its time to turn once again to looking at implementing HVM AMIs. The python build script now has some support for registering HVM images but we need to finish it off. One item I would like to look at is ensuring that sr-iov is working (http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/enhanced-networking.html). All testing and hacking is welcome.

Thanks to all who gave me feedback on this; very much appreciated; and as always to Anders for build-debian-cloud and Charles/Miguel/Julien/Thomas for the cloud-init package.
