On cinnamon there is a work in progress that will remove/replace use oflibgnomekbd: https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/pull/12758

I don't know when it will be ready, I haven't followed it well or testedit but that remake seems quite big to me and I suppose it might not becompleted for the next version of cinnamon but it will take more time
