and, samba can share files on linux with windows. the server is called smbd.
below's an example.

evil@thickserver:~$ smbclient //localhost/tmp
added interface ip=192.168.0.1 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
Password:
Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 2.0.7]
smb: \> ls *.xwd
