New Debian powerpc Packages

These powerpc packages were installed into the Debian hierarchy in the
last week:

----- !!! HIGH URGENCY PACKAGES !!! -----

gawk - GNU awk, a pattern scanning and processing language
gawk 3.0.3-0.3 -> 3.0.3-1 into dists/slink/main/binary-powerpc/interpreters
gawk (3.0.3-1) unstable; urgency=high
  * debian/control (Maintainer): New maintainer. However, I'm just an
    interim real maintainer, the package will go back to Chris as soon as
    he's ready.
  * debian/control (Standards-Version): Upgraded to 2.4.1.0.
  * debian/control (Depends): Made a Pre-Depends. [#20600]
  * debian/rules (binary-arch): Recompress everything but copyright under
    /usr/doc/gawk/, I'm afraid I agree with Scott and I don't subscribe to
    the debstd-style view of not compressing ``small'' files.
  * Restore Chris's debian/rules, as it was butchered by a non-maintainer
    upload. Does no one listen to the "Maintainers other than the usual
    package maintainer should make as few changes to the package as
    possible" in policy?
  * debian/rules (binary-arch): don't install gawk-3.0.3.
  * debian/rules (binary-arch): don't install igawk.sh into
    /usr/doc/gawk/examples/ as we have igawk in /usr/bin/.
  * debian/rules (binary-arch): install architecture independent files
    from awklib in /usr/share/awk/ and architecture dependant files in
    /usr/lib/awk/. (3.0.3-0.{2,3} were confused about this)
  * awklib/eg/prog/igawk.sh: SECURITY: use mktemp to create temporary
    files instead of using gratuitously insecure /tmp/ig.[se].$$.
    3.0.3-0.3 altered the wrong file, fixing nothing and failed to exit if
    mktemp/tempfile failed. [*really* fixes #19713]
  * debian/control (Depends): depend on debianutils >= 1.7 (for mktemp).
  * debian/rules (clean): remove emacs backup files (*~).
  * pc/awklib/igawk: restore original.
  * Bugs fixed in 3.0.3-0.2 by Santiago Vila <sanvila@ctv.es> but
    described by nothing more than a bug report number are :-
  * debian/rules (binary-arch): pass correct values for datadir and
    libexecdir to make to avoid installing files in random places during
    make install. [#11339, #11435]
  * debian/rule (binary-arch): don't install a gawk-3.0.3 manpage
    symlink. [#13893, #17279]
  * debian/rules (binary-arch): install examples in
    /usr/doc/gawk/examples, not /usr/doc/gawk/awlib/eg/ [#16610 1/6].
    install pwcat and grcat uncompressed and stripped into /usr/lib/awk/
    [#16610 2/6].  Don't install the Makefile* from awklib [#1660 3/6],
    don't install the C source for pwcat and grcat [#16610 4/6], don't
    install the source for group.awk and passwd.awk [#16610 5/6] and
    install awklib/lib/* in /usr/lib/awk [#16610 5/6].
  * Bugs fixed in 3.0.3-0.1 by Martin Mitchell <martin@debian.org>, not by
    Santiago as he claims :-
  * New upstream version. [#10228]
  * New upstream version fixes memory leak [#12308] and problems with "awk
    'END { getline < "/dev/user" ; print }' /dev/null". [#13131]

----- Low Urgency Packages --------------

alien - Install Red Hat and Slackware Packages with dpkg.
alien 6.02hamm1 -> 6.03hamm2 into dists/hamm/main/binary-all/admin
alien (6.03hamm2) frozen; urgency=low
  * Fixed a security hole in alien generated rpm files that had scripts in
    them, that could allow a user to clobber files on the filesystem. Any
    such alien generated rpm files currently in existence already contain
    this bug, so be careful with them. Such files should be rare, they have
    to be generated by "alien --to-rpm --scripts", however to prevent the
    generation of any more, it's important that this version of alien makes
    its way into debian 2.0.
  * Also, fixed --scripts, --single, and --description, all three of which
    have been broken since alien 6.0.
  * It used to be that only shell scripts could be converted to rpm format,
    because of a stupid bug. Fixed.

alien - Install Red Hat, Stampede, and Slackware Packages with dpkg.
alien 6.08 -> 6.09 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/admin
alien (6.09) unstable; urgency=low
  * Added a short document on how to generate a diff file for use by alien.
  * Fixed a security hole in alien generated rpm files that had scripts in
    them, that could allow a user to clobber files on the filesystem. Any
    such alien generated rpm files currently in existence already contain
    this bug, so be careful with them. Such files should be rare, they have
    to be generated by "alien --to-rpm --scripts".
  * That bug is even less likely, becuase it turns out --scripts has been
    broken since alien version 6.0. Oops. Fixed.
  * --single and --description were also broken since 6.0, and are fixed
    now.
  * It used to be that only shell scripts could be converted to rpm format,
    because of a stupid bug. Fixed.
  * There has been a change in how rpm outputs the file list for a
    relocatable package - it used to strip the prefix from each filename,
    and I could get at it in the DEFAULTPREFIX tag. Now it doesn't, and that
    tag doesn't exist. The only change I actually had to make was to make
    alien send rpm's error about DEFAULTPREFIX not being a valid tag to
    /dev/null. All the code for dealing with DEFAULTPREFIX has been left in,
    for backwards compatability.

alien - Install Red Hat, Stampede, and Slackware Packages with dpkg.
alien 6.09 -> 6.10 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/admin
alien (6.10) unstable; urgency=low
  * Remove a junk file that crept in in the last version.

alien - Install Red Hat, Stampede, and Slackware Packages with dpkg.
alien 6.10 -> 6.11 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/admin
alien (6.11) unstable; urgency=low
  * There was a problem converting rpm packages to tgz and slp formats (and
    to a much lesser degree converting them to dpkg format): any parent
    directories that were not in the rpm, but did have children in the rpm,
    would end up with bad permissions (700). Alien now does a smart scan to
    detect this and changes the permissions to a more sane 755.
  * When converting to slp or tgz, with -g or -s, output informative
    message, same as when converting to rpm or deb.

console-tools - Linux console and font utilities.
console-tools-data - Keymaps, fonts, charset maps, fallback tables for console-tools
console-tools-dev - Development files for Linux console and font manipulation.
console-tools-libs - Shared libraries for Linux console and font manipulation.

kbd-compat 1998.04.08-2 -> 1998.06.03-1 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/utils
console-tools (1998.06.03-1) unstable; urgency=low
  * New upstream release.
  * Made console-tools-data conflict with kbd which contains many
    identical data files.
  * Made gencontrol use -isp.
  * Added dependency from kbd-compat to console-tools-libs to make
    lintian happy.
  * Updated init.d script and kbdconfig from kbd_0.96a-2.
  * `showfont', previously distributed as `shfont' to prevent
    name-conflict, was renamed upstream as showcfont.
  * Renamed showfont.1 to showcfont.1 (bug in upstream package).
  * console-tools-data now depends on console-tools of the at least
    same version, as file hierarchy changed, and will probably change
    again.
  * console-tools-data now conflicts with old versions of kbd only, as
    well as with kbd-data.
  * Fixed kbdconfig wrt testing and immediately loading a keymap
    (fixed do_preserving_keymap()).
  * New undocumented program: charset.
  * Renamed /etc/init.d/keymaps.sh to keymaps-lct.sh to fix a conflict
    with kbd (Fixes: Bug#23582).
  * Moved unicode-related examples to their own subdir (Fixes:
    Bug#21973).
  * Applied patch from upstream (that's me ;) to consolechars.c to fix
    occasional problem with interrupted read() when loading a font.
  * Passed lintian 0.4.8.

debhelper - helper programs for debian/rules
debhelper 0.90 -> 0.91 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/devel
debhelper (0.91) unstable; urgency=low
  * dh_installdocs: support debian/<package>.{README.Debian,TODO}

debhelper - helper programs for debian/rules
debhelper 0.91 -> 0.92 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/devel
debhelper (0.92) unstable; urgency=low
  * dh_gencontrol: pass -isp to dpkg-gencontrol to make it include section
    and priority info in the .deb file. Back in Jan 1998, this came up, and
    a consensus was reached on debian-devel that it was a good thing for
    -isp to be used.

debhelper - helper programs for debian/rules
debhelper 0.92 -> 0.93 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/devel
debhelper (0.93) unstable; urgency=low
  * Depend on file, since several dh_*'s use it.

debian-policy - Debian Policy Manual and related documents
debian-policy 2.4.1.1 -> 2.4.1.2 into dists/hamm/main/binary-all/doc
debian-policy 2.4.1.1 -> 2.4.1.2 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/doc
debian-policy (2.4.1.2) frozen unstable; urgency=low
  * non-maintainer release
  * rebuild package to fix truncated Chapter 3 (Bug#23408, not marked as
    important but should be, since a gaping hole in policy is very
    annoying.)
  * bumped version of policy, within the document, to this version number,
    but not the date, indicating nothing really changed since then
  * no content changes
  * debian/rules: clean is a little cleaner

developers-reference - Debian Developer's Reference
developers-reference 2.4.1.1 -> 2.4.1.2 into dists/hamm/main/binary-all/doc
developers-reference 2.4.1.1 -> 2.4.1.2 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/doc
developers-reference (2.4.1.2) frozen unstable; urgency=low
  * non-maintainer release
  * rebuilt since HTML versions of Chapters 1 and 2 were truncated
    (important bug, no number yet, bugs.debian.org isn't working;
    regardless, this should go in hamm because a broken developers
    reference won't win us many friends in hamm, and after all, it's just
    text, it can't hurt you.)
  * no content changes, except that the version number in the SGML file
    reflect this packages version number
  * debian/rule: clean is cleaner now

dh-make - Debianizing Tool for debhelper
dh-make 0.2 -> 0.5 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/devel
dh-make (0.5) unstable; urgency=low
  * New version as hamm is in the deep freeze

dpkg-repack - puts an unpacked .deb file back together
dpkg-repack 0.18 -> 0.19 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/admin
dpkg-repack (0.19) unstable; urgency=low
  * Version 0.16 broke repacking packages that had diverted files in them,
    because of how dpkg -L shows that info. (#23339). It turns out that
    older versions of dpkg-repack packed up not the original file, but the
    file that was diverted to replace it. I've decided that is incorrect
    behavior, and changed it so if there is a diversion, the original file is
    placed in the repacked package.

dpkg-repack - puts an unpacked .deb file back together
dpkg-repack 0.19 -> 0.20 into dists/slink/main/binary-all/admin
dpkg-repack (0.20) unstable; urgency=low
  * Changed how I disable locales when running dpkg -l - now set LC_ALL=C.

enscript - Converts ASCII texts to Postscript
enscript 1.5.0-8 -> 1.5.5-1 into dists/slink/main/binary-powerpc/text
enscript (1.5.5-1) unstable; urgency=low
  * Upgraded to new upstream version 1.5.5
  * Little grammatic correction
  * Converted debian/rules to debhelper
  * Removed double media entries for new libpaper

gettext    - GNU Internationalization utilities
gettext 0.10.32-1 -> 0.10.35-1 into project/experimental
gettext (0.10.35-1) experimental; urgency=low
  * New upstream release. The Texinfo manual have been clarified and
    this should fix Bug #20072 (gettext ignores "xgettext:c-format" in the
    same line). The comment must be before the string to be translated.

gzip - The GNU compression utility.
gzip 1.2.4-26 -> 1.2.4-27 into dists/slink/main/binary-powerpc/base
gzip (1.2.4-27) unstable; urgency=low
  * patch from Jean-loup (upstream maintainer) for zgrep.in to fix the
    problems with -A and -B successfully passing to grep. Closes 21209.

html2ps - HTML to PostScript converter

  * debian/control (Maintainer): New maintainer. However, I'm just an
    interim real maintainer, the package will go back to Chris as soon as
    he's ready.
  * debian/control (Standards-Version): Upgraded to 2.4.1.0.
  * debian/control (Depends): Made a Pre-Depends. [#20601]

musixlyr 1.02a-2 -> 1.1-1 into dists/slink/contrib/binary-all/tex
musixlyr (1:1.1-1) frozen unstable; urgency=low
  * New upstream official release.
  * [debian/control]: Revised package description;
      and revised dependencies to work with Debian 2.0 (Hamm):
        Depends: tetex-base (>= 0.9-5)
        Recommends: musixtex (>= 1:0.89-2)
        Suggests: pmx (>= 1.3.6-1)
  * [debian/postinst]: Replaced the obsolete append_db command in
    tetex-0.4 with mktexupd in tetex-0.9.
  * Removed debian/postrm.
  * [debian/copyright]: Updated author's e-mail address.
  * [debian/rules]: Added "dh_installexamples auxl-exa.pmx".
  * Not fair! dpkg thinks that 1.1 << 1.02a! Added epoch version.
  * Please put this in Hamm: postinst in previous versions (<= 1.02a-2)
    failed to do its job with tetex-0.9, rendering musixlyr unusable
    for first-time installers.

tar        - GNU tar
tar 1.12-5 -> 1.12-6 into dists/slink/main/binary-powerpc/base
tar (1.12-6) unstable; urgency=low
