I'm interested - the Trixie netinst.iso for amd64 is only 783M or so. That should leave lots of room on an 8G stick. The first DVD is only 4G
I'm also wondering from which URL you downloaded the 8GB image.Also at the moment we are hit by #1113931 which grows the installation media, which will be resolved as soon as sufficient tests have been run.
