Permalink to latest Debian stable ISO
Hello Debian CD team!
My request is to have a permanent link to the latest Debian stable ISO
image on the debian-cd repository.
We have a "current" folder on "https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/",
but the ISO images in the iso-cd, iso-dvd and iso-bd folders have the
version identifier (currently 12.6.0) and will be replaced by newer ones
in the next point release (12.7.0). This makes a little difficult to get
the latest Debian stable ISO image in an automated fashion.
Can we have a symlink like one of the following:
https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/amd64/iso-cd/debian-12-latest-amd64-netinst.iso
https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/amd64/iso-cd/debian-stable-latest-amd64-netinst.iso
Pointing to the latest release of the Debian stable CD ISO image?
https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/amd64/iso-cd/debian-12.6.0-amd64-netinst.iso
Also, something similar for the DVD release would be appreciated,
a symlink like one of the following:
https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/amd64/iso-dvd/debian-12-latest-amd64-DVD-1.iso
https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/amd64/iso-dvd/debian-stable-latest-amd64-DVD-1.iso
Pointing to the latest DVD ISO image:
https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/amd64/iso-dvd/debian-12.6.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso
Maybe we would need to have a similar one for the BD ISO release as well.
https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/amd64/iso-bd/
I like to think of this as the "latest" tag in the container images.
https://hub.docker.com/_/debian/
I can always run a container with the the _latest_ Debian stable release
by using the "latest" tag:
$ docker run -it docker.io/debian:latest
root@1a2b3c4d5e6f:/# cat /etc/debian_version
12.6
Thanks in advance!
PS: I am touching the same topic that was seen in the mailing list [1]
(Sep 2008) and on the forums [2] (Oct 2020).
