I installed debian testing with a root btrfs filesystem. On first boot I got the error:

Scanning for Btrfs filesystems

Fsck from util-linux 2.27

[ 20.171016] systemd[1]: /etc/mtab is not a symlink or not pointing to /proc/self/mounts. This is not supported anymore. Please replace /etc/mtab with a symlink to /proc/self/mounts

[ 20.177206] systemd[1]: freezing execution

 

And apologies that this is HTML, but debian isn’t working right now :(

Hi Jon,

Apologies for your problem. You've been hit by a bad interaction
between debian-installer and systemd - see
http://bugs.debian.org/802025 and http://bugs.debian.org/801961 if
you'd like more information.

There's a fix available already, and if you try a newer version of the
installer things should work for you now. We've just released alpha4
of debian-installer for Stretch this weekend, and I've tested that
successfully myself yesterday. Closing this bug accordingly, thanks
for the report!
