Maybe the following is unclear to you: In contrast to some closed-source 
operating systems, when you obtain a complete Linux distribution this does 
not only include the OS itself, but also lots and lots of open-source 
programs for the OS. In the case of Debian, the core components (OS, 
graphical user interface, some basic applications) basically fit on 1 CD. 
We recommend to download the first two CDs - in this case, you also get a 
couple of other popular, useful programs.

Most people do not actually need many of the packages on the other CDs, so 
we recommend not to download the images, but instead to install further 
programs on an installed system by directly downloading only the needed 
packages.

As can be seen from the OP's question, he has already done that!

IMHO this question is on-topic for this list. debian-user is mainly for 
users of already-installed systems.
