Apt always supported that. If I put my CD and mount it on /cdrom and
use "deb file:/cdrom/debian woody main contrib non-free" in sources.list,
it does work !

And I don't see why it should stop working because of a stupid decision
that we took.

Why should the normal Packages file be named differently and not the new
files that we are introducing ?

Yes, but they won't always copy them in the same place, they copy them in
different directories and use several lines like "deb file:/tmp/CD1 .."
and so on.

I for one use several directories like that when I mount (with the
loopback) several ISO images :
# mount -o loop /debian-cd/debian-woody-1.raw /mnt/cd1
and so on ...
