bug in debian-cd ?

the cd build failed with "cp images-1.44/resc*" something.
ok, i guess this is a result of the new bootdisks, not a problem.

but how on earth could that cp command fail, but the process as a whole
continue ? the cd images were created (but the first image is 34kb size).
i could not find out why the whole big debian-cd mechanism continued.
maybe i have not enough experience with mixed makefile / mini shell scripts
inside makefiles / external shell scrip situations. please someone look at
this and find what is going wrong ?
