I don't have time to learn about rsync, but assuming it just wants to send
data over a TCP connection as fast as possible, results from FTP downloads
should be applicable, right? (if rsync needs much upload throughput, then
anonymous FTP downloads doesn't reflect quite the same load, but the results
should be comparable.)
From a computer at Dalhousie, I get about 40 kBytes/sec downloading
/pub/linux/kernel/linux-2.2.14.tar.bz2. (start: 23:40 AST (03:40 UTC), 2000/2/10.) The
connection started at ~80 kB/s, but slowed down to 40 after a while.
