Thanks for sharing this with us.

However, I think it's my fault that you weren't aware that we already have an
automated tool for this, called `debcdmirror'. It's available from
http://cdimage.debian.org when you choose the 4th option (being a mirror). It
doesn't automatically download the Pseudo-Image Kit, but it does everything
else (incl. md5summing). I'll put links to this at the appropriate pages in a
few days (I hope ;-).
