Are you sure the person who wrote this is using devd? The patch I mention was
flagged as experimental in FreeBSD. In fact it didn't even work without some
changes. See my patches in freebsd-x11 and the discussions that follow:

One could say this is not a great achievement on HAL's part, considering its only
purpose when it comes to X is hot-plugging ;-)

It's just that X needs to know it's using a backend for device autoconfig. If it's not HAL,
then whatever else.
