because it would be a change in Sid, which, by our definition, is not
intended to be used by end users and therefore nothing the press team
should cope (right now).
Morever, I beg to disagree: Its probably not a "major" change, as Debian
does not propagate any supported default desktop like Ubuntu does for
example. The only difference is the desktop you get if you select the
corresponding "Desktop" menu entry in the installer while doing a
standard installation.

I, and probably many other users, never do that but explicitly install
the desktop of our choice after installation is complete in a root shell
of the fresh installed system. I admit I am probably not the best
example anyway, as I never installed X or even a desktop environment on
kfreebsd.

Nonetheless the change should be announced: not to the general public
(i.e. by press release), but to developers. Maybe its time for a "bits
from the ..." mail? We have many things to announce, not only the coming
up change of the default desktop, but also the greatly improved ZFS
installer support (eventually also with outcome of [1]), the upcoming
switch to kfreebsd 9, and eventually many things I forgot now.
