That's pretty much what I was thinking about. However the question is:
which images do generally work? I was told, the current w-i/d-i don't,
as they miss bzcat.

Maybe someone working on d-i regularly, could point me to such working
images, once they appear in future? I would do the documentation and
advertisement then.


Regarding backporting your ZFS improvements and the bug fixes you noted
to Squeeze: Would that be possible at all, keeping in mind, that Stable
is frozen and your changes would affect d-i (e.g. see
<20110627182140.GA6415@spike.0x539.de>)?
