Bug#565396: kfreebsd-image-7.2-1-686: fails to boot: indefinitely hangs looking for BOOTP/DHCP response
Package: kfreebsd-image-7.2-1-686
Version: 7.2-10
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
unfortunately, the fix to:
#550429: kfreebsd-7: add BOOTP kernel options for NFS Root support
causes repeated attempts to look for a BOOTP/DHCP response sufficient to start
NFS root with the default grub2 configuration:
ad0: 3072MB <QEMU HARDDISK 0.11.1> at ata0-master WDMA2
GEOM_LABEL: Label for provider ad0s1 is ufsid/4b505939ffe263ea.
acd0: CDROM <QEMU DVD-ROM/0.11.1> at ata1-master WDMA2
cd0 at ata1 bus 0 target 0 lun 0
Sending DHCP Discover packet from interface ed0 (52:54:00:12:34:56)
DHCP/BOOTP timeout for server 255.255.255.255
DHCP/BOOTP timeout for server 255.255.255.255
this effectively breaks any system attempting to boot from hard disk. bug
#550429 should probably be reverted and re-opened, seeing as *most* users
probably do not want to network boot by default...
live well,
