Draft for D-I Jessie RC2



Hi,

You'll find my current draft the release announce below. If nothing
breaks too badly, the release might be ready somewhen this thursday,
so if you have anything to add/fix/comment on, be quick. ;)

The Debian Installer team[1] is pleased to announce the second release
candidate of the installer for Debian 8 "Jessie".


Improvements in this release of the installer
=============================================

 * brltty-udeb:
    - Make grub beep at boot when brltty was used during installation (#774536).
 * console-setup:
    - Fix default keymap/layout for several languages.
 * debian-installer:
    - Keep track of more packages in Built-Using (#696418, #700026).
 * libdebian-installer:
    - Fix possible segfault on armel/armhf (#776488).
 * systemd:
    - Enable tty 2 to 6 even when dbus is not installed (#772700).
 * tasksel:
    - Remove pm-utils from the desktop and laptop tasks.
    - Remove libgl1-mesa-dri from the desktop task.
    - When a desktop is preseeded, only enable that desktop (#771576).
    - Also install libreoffice-gtk along gnome-orca, to make LibreOffice accessible (#773763).


Hardware support changes
========================

 * debian-installer:
    - Provide u-boot binaries for armhf systems without u-boot in flash.
    - Add a workaround for the console baudrate mismatch on some i.MX6-based systems.
 * debian-installer, network-console, oldsys-preseed:
    - Add support for Buffalo Linkstation LS-CHLv2/LS-XHL (#744714, #744715, #744716).
 * grub2:
    - Add support for running a 64-bit Linux kernel on a 32-bit EFI (#775202).
    - Fix UEFI boot failure with some firmware that returns incorrect paths (#735960).
 * linux:
    - [armhf] Add support for OMAP5432 uEVM (#772953).
    - [arhmf] Add device-tree for LinkSprite pcDuino V3 (#774067).
    - [arm64] Ensure efivars and efi-pstore are loaded on EFI systems (#773309).
    - udeb: Add i2c-designware-{core,platform} to i2c-modules and i2c-hid to input-modules (#772578).
    - [amd64] Enable EFI_MIXED to support Bay Trail systems.
    - efi: Expose underlying UEFI firmware platform size to userland, to support installation on Bay Trail systems (#775191).
    - Add support for Bananapro board (#779311).
    - [armhf] Add DTB for Olimex A20-OLinuXino-LIME2 (#777455).
    - [armhf] Enable CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_GPIO as a module (#778783).
    - [armhf] Enable FB_SIMPLE on sunxi platform, backporting fixes and DTS entries.
    - [x86] ACPI / video: Add disable_native_backlight quirk for various Samsung models and Dell XPS15 L521X (#772440).
    - [x86] ALSA: Enable SND_SOC, SND_SOC_INTEL_SST, SND_SOC_INTEL_HASWELL_MACH, SND_SOC_INTEL_BYT_RT5640_MACH, SND_SOC_INTEL_BYT_MAX98090_MACH as modules (#773835).
    - arcmsr: Backport changes up to Linux 3.18 (#698821).
    - drm: Enable DRM_BOCHS, DRM_QXL as modules (qxl disabled by default but can be forced with modeset=1).
    - Add support for Bananapro board (#779311).
 * u-boot:
    - Backport support for the LeMaker Banana Pro board (#779908).
    - Backport support for A20-OLinuXino-LIME2 (#777466).


Localization status
===================

 * 75 languages are supported in this release.
 * Full translation for 19 of them.


Known bugs in this release
==========================

 * There seems to be no known major bug as of yet.

The errata page[2] will be updated if needed.

please try it. Installer CDs, other media and everything else you will
need are available at our web site[3].
