Comments/Problems:

<Description of the install, in prose, and any thoughts, comments
and ideas you had during the initial install.>

Hello debian.org, nice to meet you!

I had "big" language problems after the debian live CD installation,
which I solved by myself, so you don't need to help me.
But I want to let you know the problem I had because I think it may help
you to enhance the live CD process.

Many thanks for your great OS.

(1) ---------------------------------------------------

With the Debian live DC, the chosen language during the installation
was: fr_CH.utf8

The installation was OK, without language or keyboard problems. Thank
you so much for that, we usually have ALWAYS lots problems, but not with
Debian.

But the language was not fully installed. When I logged in for the firs
time:

- the session menus and applications names were correctly in french
- the menus in evolution were in french BUT the spelling was being made
with a wrong dictionary (en_US)
- the menus of libreOffice writer or iceweasel were in English

(2) ---------------------------------------------------

I checked the language settings in the system settings application. I
chose country and language and was offered these options:

Allemand (= German)
Anglais (= English)
Anglais britanique (= British English)
Chinois (simplifié) (Simplified Chinese)
Français (= French)
français (= french)

The last option was selected (= french in lowercase)
I tried to select French with uppercase, close the session and come
back, the many things went wrong:

- still no french spelling dictionary
- menu "Activities" changed to English (but application names still in
french)
- language in evolution changed to English too
- selecting "system settings" (title changed to english), country and
language (this one was in french), the following was displayed

British English
Chinese (simplified)
English
French
German
Spanish
Unspecified [ANSI_X3.41968]

the last option was selected: Unspecified!

(3) ---------------------------------------------------

I found this solution:

$ su
# apt-get install myspell-fr-gut
# echo $LANGUAGE

# export LANGUAGE=fr_CH.utf8

# echo $LANG

# export LANG=fr_CH.utf8

# echo $LC_ALL

# export LC_ALL=fr_CH.utf8

# dpkg-reconfigure locales
Generating locales (this might take a while)...
  fr_CH.UTF-8... done
Generation complete.

(4) ---------------------------------------------------

After a reboot, I went again in language Settings, and I saw again
"Unspecified" as languange.
Selecting French was useless, when I came back I had the same.

British English
Chinese (simplified)
English
French
German
Spanish
Unspecified [ANSI_X3.41968]

(5) ---------------------------------------------------

But, this time clicking on the small "+" to add a language, I could
select "French" again in a pop-up window.
And after one more session logout / login, I now have the "français"
option which is the one I need.

Allemand (= German)
Anglais (= English)
Anglais britanique (= British English)
Chinois (simplifié) (Simplified Chinese)
Français (= French)
français (= french)

(6) ---------------------------------------------------

This time it is better, my system menus and applications are in French,
inside evolution I have menus in French and french spelling, inside the
files browser (ex nautilus?) the menus are in french.

There is still a problem, the menus in iceweasel and libreOffice writer
(for instance) are still in english... I did not find an option like in
Ubuntu "Apply system-wide"... probably I'll still have to fight for it,
but at least the desktop is ok now.
