Apologies; I tested it with the version of debootstrap from sid (1.0.47). 
That was sloppy on my part...

I *was* able to reproduce the bug you experienced with ltsp-build-client with 
the debootstrap version from wheezy (1.0.44). 

I believe installing the newer version of debootstrap should resolve your
issue.

It has now been reassigned and merged with the debootstrap bug, which is marked
as serious severity, and needs to get fixed for wheezy.
