Comments/Problems:

Overall a very impressive step-up from Lenny amd64 from last summer.  Congratulations!   I
was expecting the installer would not recognize the wireless keyboard
and it did with no problems.

This was the third net install of Squeeze on this box (in the last
month).  The first two installations were with the net-install disk
without firmware (a disk with firmware is a great idea). The last
installation with the firmware net-install disk
was to test the firmware version of install to see if that might help
some
residual issues and detection/installation of the wireless without the
wired network(failed with wireless alone). Firmware was also on a usb
stick in the machine during
the installation.

I have noted what may be permissions issues in some configuration files (the programs were unable to access their own
configurations), but I do not remember if these were programs included with
the net-install or
subsequent installs with dpkg/aptitude.

The last install included a DB installation. (used KDE advanced graphical "expert"  install options) It did not prompt for a
root password for mysql as it has done on the installation of mysql by itself and I believe an earlier installation(?).

apt - I used different options for the installer for this version... the second last
install had a repository address from choices from a list for the
Canadian repository as ftp3.nrc...... this apparently broke over the
last weekend.  The option was manual this time - I used the .ca.deb address from the debian website and that is working.

The system is to run a theater box running MythTV for OTA TV, and is
still a work in progress.  Drives/memory have been checked for
errors with none found.  An attempt to install Mythbuntu (64bit
version) in
parallel on a separate partition (to check the hardware and firmware)
is not a recommended procedure.

If you wish additional feedback on some aspect let me know; this email
address (we_wor_ama_a_tgmaild_otcom_ ---- remove underscores and
replace obvious)  is not regularly monitored and can go more than
several months,
but I will check it over the next few weeks.  (today is March 16,2011
--if not recorded elsewhere)

Many of the issues noted in the log files (over the three
installations-a few are listed) are found on the web dated
from 4-5 years ago to last month ... with apparent fixes already in the
various
kernels (have tried with several versions of a compiled 37.2
kernel...but still exploring that) Many of these seem to be kernel
related and may not be specific to Debian as they crop up in other
fora.  Some kernel reports
are apparently just informational... determining which can be a
challenge
for me.  A special thank you to all the people working on the kernel
for suggesting
that in their past bug reports (on these found errors) to make things
less cryptic.  It makes it easier.

The gory details of the new install last night.

-Wireless was not detected with the install but it is detected in the log files on boot.

-booting messages suggest a memory space collision error (recompiling to a 37.2
kernel with other options can fix this one, the bios does not have an
option for a low memory gap, another of the nags but the kernel does
apparently work around both issues.  Again thanks to the people working on the kernels.)

-Firmware - some of it did not seem to be installed.

-it nagged on startup for the ivtv firmware-- did you remember to...)

-r600_cp: failed to load firmware "radeon/RS780_pfp.bin"  (from syslog)

ivtv

-both the Hauppauge 150 and 1950 were recognized

syslog includes among others:

-cx25840 1-044: unable to open firmware v4l-cx25940.fw  (there are
at least a couple of versions of some of this firmware... I suspect the
32 bit one is being used (?)... will check that in the next couple of
days.   My system needs a larger file for one of these (but it reports
that)

-pvrusb2: did you install the pvrusb2 firmware files in proper
location  -   this is from the 1950-- which can be problematic..

other miscellaneous log messages
seem to be issues with the fb0: radeondrmfb frame buffer including
panic notifiers.  In part - I wonder if this is informational as no errors were reported in Xorg log

no service file found in /etc/avahi/services
SCPlughin - Ifupdown no configuration found (both wireless and wired)  ...yet the wired is working.
