Bug#599360: installation-reports: official 5.0.6 netinst.iso: no support for sc92031 network interface module

Package: installation-reports
Severity: normal

Hi,

I downloaded the Debian Official 5.0.6 netinst.iso, burned it to dvd+rw,
and then re-booted.

The Debian-Installer performed as expected, until the "setup the
network" step. At this point, the installed network card(s),

5:00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Hangzhou Silan Microelectronics Co.,
Ltd. RTL8139D [Realtek] PCI 10/100BaseTX ethernet adaptor (rev 01)

6:00:0a.0 Ethernet controller: Hangzhou Silan Microelectronics Co.,
Ltd. RTL8139D [Realtek] PCI 10/100BaseTX ethernet adaptor (rev 01)

were not recognized at all, and I was asked to manually choose the
network card - of course the "sc92031" was not available to choose from!

I continued with the Debian-Installer, just skipping the network
configuration steps, and completed the remaining installation steps.

Then I re-booted into my new (very minimal) lenny installation, and I
was suprised that the sc92031 module was automatically detected and
loaded during the boot process (initrd).

So it appears to me that somehow the sc92031 kernel module was not
included in the official 5.0.6 netinst.iso kernel/initrd loaded by
isolinux at boot time.

Thanks,

Jeffrey Sheinberg
