Today, while trying to build a clean Lenny chroot using pbuilder, I noticed that
debootstrap complained of failure to configure packages, mentioning that it will
try 5 times before completely giving up.

Instead, what happens is that the host becomes unresponsive and has to be force-
rebooted (ACPI reset button).

So, this bug is two-fold:

1) no longer able to build a Lenny chroot (I tried with and without adding the
security updates repository, in /etc/pbuilderrc - fails in both cases).

2) failure to configure the base system and trying 5 more times pulls an insane
amount of system resources that brings the build host to its knees.

While I realize that Squeeze is getting closer to a release, it's still necessary
to be able to create Lenny chroots e.g. to build backports and security releases,
so I can only hope that the Debian-boot team can fix this.

Cheers!
Martin-Éric

Closing this report as the problem is not reproducible for others and there
has been no further information from the submitter. The root of the
problem is certainly not in debootstrap.
