No more info, sorry.

The only usable 2.6.30 kernel from that source is
http://snapshot-dev.debian.org/archive/debian-security/20091209T040846Z/pool/updates/main/l/linux-2.6/linux-image-2.6.30-2-486_2.6.30-8squeeze1_i386.deb
This image is an image only containing a vmlinuz kernel, no initrd
(not sure, why).
I installed that, and booted:
system starts and gets a kernel panic, because root file system is unable
to be found.
That means at least, that grub2 is not the problem, what was my very
first thought.
