Package: debian-installer
Version: 20090123lenny6
Severity: normal

I installed quite a bunch of new (lenny) systems in the last days and always
ended up deinstalling dhcp3-client and -common afterwards.

Since I configured a static network address to each of the boxen, I'd really
like to see d-in not install those dhcp3* packages automagically. Instead
please check whether dhcp network configuration has been chosen and only
then install them.

Thanks,
Peter

That's because these packages are 'Priority: important' and thus considered
part of the base system. D-I (more specifically: debootstrap) simply
installs the base system and defining its contents is outside the scope of
both D-I itself and the D-I developers.

It is possible to include/exclude packages from base-system installation,
but you will have to explicitly tell the installer to do so.
See [1] and the function install_base_system() in the postinst script for
the bootstrap-base udeb for details.

Closing this report because the change as requested can/will not ever be
implemented. You can still reply if you have additional comments or
questions.

Cheers,
FJP
