Subject: tasksel: Mail task selected although not all programs were installed. Package: tasksel Version: 2.76 Severity: normal *** Please type your report below this line *** Dear DDs, after reading the changelog I wanted to try tasksel and saw that the Mail task was shown as selected. Not remembering having done this I deselected it and the following packages were removed. [INSTALLIEREN, ABHÄNGIGKEITEN] nbsmtp [ENTFERNEN, ABHÄNGIGKEITEN] exim4-base [ENTFERNEN] exim4 [ENTFERNEN] exim4-config [ENTFERNEN] exim4-daemon-light [ENTFERNEN] mailx [ENTFERNEN] mutt [ENTFERNEN] procmail I did not want to have mutt removed, which I installed manually, so I selected the task again and now additional packages were installed. [INSTALLIEREN, ABHÄNGIGKEITEN] exim4-base [INSTALLIEREN, ABHÄNGIGKEITEN] libc-client2007b [INSTALLIEREN, ABHÄNGIGKEITEN] libsocket6-perl [INSTALLIEREN, ABHÄNGIGKEITEN] mlock [INSTALLIEREN, ABHÄNGIGKEITEN] spamc [ENTFERNEN, ABHÄNGIGKEITEN] nbsmtp [INSTALLIEREN] exim4 [INSTALLIEREN] exim4-config [INSTALLIEREN] exim4-daemon-light [INSTALLIEREN] mailagent [INSTALLIEREN] mailx [INSTALLIEREN] mutt [INSTALLIEREN] procmail [INSTALLIEREN] qpopper [INSTALLIEREN] sa-exim [INSTALLIEREN] spamassassin [INSTALLIEREN] uw-imapd So I am wondering, why the task was marked as installed although not all of its dependencies were installed (the last four were not). Is this a bug or a feature, I am not seeing? Thanks a lot, Paul PS: Now I know what use the -t option has. :-) -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages tasksel depends on: ii aptitude 0.4.11.10-1 terminal-based package manager ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.24 Debian configuration management sy ii liblocale-gettext-perl 1.05-4 Using libc functions for internati ii tasksel-data 2.76 Official tasks used for installati tasksel recommends no packages. tasksel suggests no packages. -- debconf information: tasksel/title: tasksel/desktop: gnome tasksel/first: tasksel/tasks: Desktop environment, Mail serverAttachment: signature.asc

The task is selected if the key packages are installed. That is why you probably saw it as installed while few packages of it where not installed. I'm closing this bug report since this is not a bug.
