Bug#491813: Acknowledgement ([lenny][i386][hd-media][20080721] fails to boot)

Yes, this is.
I see
 loading linux.....
 loading initrd.gz..............................................................
......ready.

Then I would normally see boot messages from the kernel, and (even with 
the "quiet" option on) see a delay of a few seconds.

What happened instead is that the _instant_ the 'ready.' string appears,
the system went back to the start of the BIOS boot sequence.

I tried a more recent image,

This works correctly, ie the installer is able to boot and I get as
far as the network card configuration screen[1].
This is true whether I use the standard "install" item from the splash
screen, the "graphical" item, or the "advanced options"->"expert install".

So I think this particular bug has been fixed and can be closed.
