Comments/Problems:
I was attempting to provide more information about an old bug (#414117).
I downloaded an hd-media image from
http://people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/images/daily/hd-media/boot.img.gz
and a netinst.iso from
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/i386/iso-cd/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso
I set the USB key up like this:
zcat boot.img.gz >/dev/sdb
mount /dev/sdb /mnt
cp netinst.iso /mnt
The sequence to reproduce is:
1. Power off machine.
2. Insert USB key.
3. Power up, select F11 to get the boot menu.
4. Select the USB key device to boot from.
The installer screen appears (so ISOLINUX/SYSLINUX is working)
'Install' is highlighted.
5. Press <return>
The system starts to load, ie 'linux' loads, then 'initrdg.gz'.
The initrd appears to complete loading.
But then the system boots back into the BIOS.
I don't see any normal boot messages at all.
I tried different modes of booting, by using the arrow keys to highlight
the different options on the first screen of the installer, and hitting
<return>.
* Advanced->Expert Install'
* Help->, look at a few screens (using F6, F7, F8)
then type 'Install' at the prompt on the screen.
* 'Graphical'
All give the same result.
The bios is Phoenix ROM BIOS Plus 1.10, 1.3.7
This machine is currently running etch, with EMT64 extensions turned on
(ie amd64 kernel). So I'm confident the hardware is ok.
