Further information: The last thing that I can read in boot
sequence is the load of the Gnome Display Manager. Two or more things flash up
but can’t see what they are. When press Off switch can see that 4 more items
ran/started, last of which was the scheduler - crond. I have also tried the following things
with same result: - run in Single User mode - disconnected mouse before boot - disconnected Ethernet cable before boot In Single User Mode, I get the root command
prompt but have no idea what to do with it, so I just press <Ctrl> D to
continue – it then does same stuff and fails in same way. David Wilkins +61 2 9918 5801 +61 419 275 642 From:

Comments/Problems:
Install appeared to be successful (no errors) but system won’t complete boot. Appears to boot/load everything but then screen goes blank and stops. At this point can’t seem to type anything to get it to move on. Only option is to press Reset button (reboots system) or On/Off switch. If press On/Off switch, screen temporarily reactivates and can see that system is at login prompt, but can’t type anything. System then shuts down.
I am a complete novice with Linux so have no knowledge to diagnose or resolve this problem. Help!
