Comments/Problems: Could not get sound working (no such device) while no
problem with ubuntu / suse / knoppix on same type of machine.
It is surely my problem (and lack of knowledge), but it would be nice
(very cool!) to have it properly installed&configured when choosing
"desktop" from simple choice in base-config.

<Description of the install, in prose, and any thoughts, comments
and ideas you had during the initial install.>
Fine installer, very quick, asks good questions. Short download of
packages. I don't need a graphic installer. It would be cool to have the
console at a higher resolution automatically (like suse or knoppix e.g.
do it)
I see why debian is the way it is, but politely ask for it anyway,
because I definitely prefer debian: Sympathic!! / Very good package
management / Fine philosophy!!
I'm some sort of an advanced newbie and even get debian working. You did
very god work, indeed!
Go ahead :-)

Greets
Matthias

Mostly getting sound working is a question of installing alsa-base and=20
alsa-utils, and running alsaconf.
It is indeed one area where the installer could be improved though.

Debian aims to support a wide range of hardware by default. You are free=20
however to add a vga=3D parameter when booting the installer to set your=20
preferred resolution. It will even be carried forward to your bootloader=20
configuration.

Thanks for your report and compliments. I'm closing the report as there=20
were no real issues. Good luck with your new Debian system.

Cheers,
