card using a Seagate 80 Gb SATA attached drive dedicated for Linux using
USB (zboard) keyboard and (ms) mouse. The CD/DVD-ROM drive is SATA
attached.

Comments/Problems:
I have a computer built with a Asus K8N-DL motherboard with two AMD
Opteron 840 cpu's. Trying to install Linux on this system has failed
previously with similar problems, issues with the nVidia chipset,
CK804. The install hangs while loading the sata_nv module and stays
there for as long as I let it. I have tried Fedora Core 4 and had
confirmation of similar problems with this module.
Additionially, I have both a USB keyboard and mouse now and the USB
keyboard would not work with the etch-1 beta. It is a zBoard USB
keyboard. When I plugged a standard PS/2 keyboard into the system, I was
able to proceed.
Since this is more an exercise in trying out etch beta-1, I checked the
ASUS page for any BIOS updates and found one, 1007. I flashed the bios
and tried again.
After upgrading the BIOS from 1004 to 1007:
The system booted as before, however, this time the USB keyboard worked
as expected. So I didn't need to pull out the PS/2 keyboard.
The system passed the sata_nv module quickly instead of hanging. I was
getting pretty excited.
I have a SATA attached cdrom drive and the installer could not find or
access the cdrom drive after the initial syslinux boot access of this
drive, which worked fine during the very initial boot.
I have a Plextor PX-712A which is attached to the nVidia SATA port.
Linux has never been setup on this current configuration, so I can not
say this has worked previously. When I upgraded the hardware to what it
is now was the last time I had Linux on my desktop. I have been using
Cygwin under windows on this computer and XDMCP for my linux desktop.
