Dear sir/madam,

Today I tried to install debian on one of my computers. Some IBM 100mhz =
pentium system. I planned to install the base system trough the network. =
Everything (including the networkdriver) went fine till I entered the =
gateway adresses, after "ok" the system crashed completely; the monitor =
turned off for a few seconds, then there was a some reboot, but the =
"beautiful" fullscreen blue IBM-logo was completely scrambled. The only =
way to get a clean startup was to turn the system off and on again.

After that I restarted the installation, it said that I allready =
configured the device drivers, so I went to the network configuration, =
it only asked for a hostname and said I did have a network device, so I =
got back to the device driver configuration, my network card wasn't =
selected so I tried to install it again. Now it couldn't find the =
module! I first thought that there was anything wrong with my =
networkcard (I didn't read the errormessage very well), but then I =
realised I simply had to reinstall the driverdisks, it helped! I =
installed the device driver again. And I started to configure the =
network, but it crashed again after the gateway configuration.

So I have 2 questions:

1. (most important) How to solve the system crash?

2. I think it is not correct that I had to reinstall the drivers after a =
reboot, I mounted the same harddisk, and the program said I allready =
passed that stage so...?

I hope you can help me.

Thank you very much in advance,

Jelle van Kempen

I'm closing all bug reports filed on the boot-floppies since this
codebase has reached its end of life. boot-floppies is only in Debian
oldstable now (and temporarily in unstable because of bug #224469).

The new installer for sarge and beyond is of course, the
debian-installer. It solves a great many issues present in the
boot-floppies.

If you believe that your boot-floppies bug is still present in
debian-installer somehow, then please reopen the bug report and reassign
it there, or perhaps better, file a new bug report.
