I've already seen several mails since the release from users unaware of the fact that testing is now Etch and no longer Sarge and getting into problems because of that. IMO we should reconsider using release code names instead of status names when adding sources in /etc/apt/sources.list. This would also help users who want to install the previous release using an oldstable version of the installer. Some examples of confused users: http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2005/06/msg00081.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-sparc/2005/06/msg00107.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-laptop/2005/06/msg00163.html http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2005/06/msg00646.html (?) http://lists.debian.org/debian-testing/2005/06/msg00058.html Note that this approach was already chosen for the Release Notes: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2005/05/msg00779.html http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/release-notes/ch-upgrading.en.html#s-upgrade-process
