Comments/Problems:
All ran smoothly. I had performed a few Debian intallations beforehand, so I knew how the process should go. The only obscure point I found during previous installations is the partitioning of the disk. I got the wrong impression that, at that point, I MUST do some partitioning and the creation of a file system with no escape. To remedy this, I usually do the partitioning with other tools,
like qtparted by booting the Knoppix Live CD.

In this case, since we were installing over a pre-existing Windows XP installation,
where the hard disk consisted of a single NTFS partition,
I shrinked that NTFS partition by using Partition Magic (commercial software for Windows). Then I used qtparted to create a reiserfs partition in the newly freed disk space.

I was able to use hardware acceleration for the nvidia GeForce FX Go 5200 graphic card by using the related Debian package. Almost out of the box! The xfree configuration file XF86Config-4 with 1280 x 800 Wide View TFT resolution
I copied from http://zzrough.free.fr/toshiba-m30.php

Here is part of the file dists/sarge/Release of the installer CD image,
with some info about the Debian installer I used:
