Comments/Problems:
All ran smoothly. I had performed a few Debian
intallations beforehand,
so I knew how the process should go. The only obscure
point I found
during previous installations is the partitioning of the
disk.
I got the wrong impression that, at that point, I MUST do
some
partitioning and the creation of a file system with no
escape.
To remedy this, I usually do the partitioning with other
tools,
like qtparted by booting the Knoppix Live CD.
In this case, since we were installing over a pre-existing
Windows XP installation,
where the hard disk consisted of a single NTFS partition,
I shrinked that NTFS partition by using Partition Magic
(commercial software for Windows).
Then I used qtparted to create a reiserfs partition in the
newly freed disk space.
I was able to use hardware acceleration for the nvidia
GeForce FX Go 5200 graphic
card by using the related Debian package. Almost out of
the box!
