(No need to SHOUT.)

Try looking at the bootoptions on the f1 - f10 help screens before you 
boot.

I would try 'linux26' (the 2.6 kernel) first and 'linux noapic nolapic' 
next.
Other options could be disabling USB, disabling ACPI, disabling 
PCMCIA, ...

Also check your BIOS settings.
