Install base system: [E]

[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Comments/Problems:

General:
- when i switch to another console (alt-F2) and return to main (alt-F1),
i lost the menu (on the screnn), so i have to press another key and the
menu appears.
- the main menu don't follow the installation step.Example, if i select
'choose language', and select a language, when i return on the main
menu, the selected item is always on 'choose language'. it would be
better to have the next item selected 'Detect network'.

Configure network HW:
- when i start automatic detection, it prints
 'Unable to load module':
 ide-mod
 ide-probe-mod

Choose the keyboard:
- the 'go-back' don't work sometimes
- there is no keymap for keyboard latin1 with euro

Config network:
- there is no go-back in the DHCP network configuration

Detect hard drives:
- it loads a lot of hard drive modules from network, and display 'a
error occured ..... modprobe -v module.o'. I think the user will think
that his installation has failed. Why try to load first all modules with
no parameters and see if one of these has detected the HD. And if no
module work, then enable the user to enter parameters.

Install base system:
- i use a ftp connexion, but at the syslog package, i think a
'connexion timeout'
has append and the installer was unable to download all packages. is
display an error message, but i restart again the 'Install base system'
and it downloads syslog and the last packages, and the install finished
well. So, is it possible to put in the install program the fact that if
some packages are not downloaded, it try one more time again before
displaying an error message

Install the kernel:
- there are too much kernels, i don't know which one is adapted for my
computer, and the differences between 2.4.18, 2.4.20, 2.4.22,.....
And if the user doesn't know that 386,586,686 is the cpu type, he will
not be able to choose the good one. So, in the kernel installtion menu,
is it
possible to add a menu item 'install the default kernel', and by using
the /proc/cpuinfo, select the good one or take the 386 version

After reboot:
- unable to generate locales iso-8859-15 , so it returns in C and qwerty
keyboard
so i have to reconfigure console-data

<Description of the install, in prose, and any thoughts, comments
and ideas you had during the initial install.>
