Bug #149133: Debian Woody installation fails on systems w/o serial devices

I am referring to a list item openned back in June
which looks like the problem I am experiencing now.
Reading the related entries I cannot figure out what
the solution is. Can anyone help, please?

Hi Erik,

I am trying to install Debian Woody on my laptop and
coming across the same problem you reported back in
June (bug#149133). Reading the related correspondence
you say you downloaded and compiled a 2.2.20 kernel
w/o serial port and installed it on a "new rescue
disk" and installed successfully a new Debian on your
laptop. 

Could you please explain how did you create the new
rescue disk or alternatively send us a copy?

Any help you could provide would be really
appreciated.
