Regardless of your opinion on the relative merits of these volume managers,
there will be multiple viable Linux volume managers in the near future, and
it would be wasteful to hack in support for one without providing a
general framework for volume management in the installation system.  

Do you really suggest implementing such a framework on top of boot-floppies?
