It should be possible. Could you please kindly raise 'Severity:
important' bugs against these packges?

Well, in woody we're planning on having a single floppy solution which
links in the stuff it needs and only the stuff it needs. I am not
sure how that will work but Joey Hess seems to have a concept.
In Potato, we have to sacrifice a bit of user convenience in order to
have the broadest possible base of people who are able to install
Debian.
